The Next Quarter

20140331-173158.jpg

Hey friends,

Woah it’s the end of March! Where’d that go!? It means the end of the first quarter of 2014, I know!

I hope you enjoyed reading about my small joys last week.

The new month also brings with it longer days, warmer weather (here’s hoping) & a new event to decorate the house for.

Yup, Easter 2014 is now fast approaching. Easter is by far my favourite religious holiday. First because it’s tells to gospel of Jesus, no longer the baby of Christmas but a perfect grown man & King who died for us all. A perfect man? I know!

Next, definitely secondary but still full of joy, everything pastel!!! Eggs, bunnies, Easter gardens, egg hunts, felt decorations & little chicks! All signifying the Hope in new life. The kids are going to LOVE it!

Love, love, love it all!!

I hope you’ll join me on the old bloggity blog, for Easter 2014!!

Warning: Pinterest will be used generously.

See you soon friends

Small Joys – FIVE

Hey friends,

I was going to write about something completely different today but I have to interrupt this hiatus to concentrate on just being so thankful for my good health.

I’ve been poorly on & off since January with a Sinus infection that has been particularly persistent!

I’m so thankful that I feel much better today to celebrate my birthday.

A birthday is a good time to reflect & think about the year just past & our achievements. If you’ve been following this little blog you’ll have witnessed some of that change for the better. When I think of where I was last year & how God has brought me on I’m in such a different place.

But as I celebrate I’m reminded of those who are really, really sick. Those in hospital, taken unwell unexpectedly, those who are ill at home & those for who illness is a daily existence. Two years ago I was really unwell myself & having this awful cold really reminded me of that time.

In this life it’s so easy to get wrapped up in how we feel at any given time in our own little lives. It’s sometimes hard to see outside that.

So today I’m going to celebrate my birthday & really feel joy, with my family & those who are important to me & be thankful for them & my health which truly is a gift today.

Here are my beautiful gifts from my beautiful little family!

Until the next time friends.
Have a great day!

Small Joys – TWO

Hey friends,

Part Two of my Five part series this week of some of my joys since New Year that have stood out!

March 7th 2014 is a date that will forever be in my heart. My sweet, sweet Harry told me he loved me for the first time.

I know! How have I had to wait near enough 3 and a half years to hear this!

Being a mama is sometimes a thankless task, but I knew it would all be worth while when they wrap their chubby arms around you, nestle in your neck & say those words. Right? Well I got the hugs, just not the words.

I’d say to SH ‘I love you’ soooo much, & wait for a little while afterwards for a response, & nothing!! For 3 and a half years, nothing. Nada. Zip.

It was worth waiting for. He looked at me, hugged my neck & said ‘I love my Mummy’.

Of course as it goes with this things he’s said it loads since! But that first time was so special.

Hope your week is great friends, & full of hints of Spring.

Until the next time friends
Have a great day!

Five on Friday 14th March 2014 Edition

09cc0-5onfriday-logooption1

Today’s link up is such a sweet one for me. It’s my beautiful sissy’s 30th birthday today!! I can’t quite believe my baby sister is 30!!

So my Five this week are all about Rosie!

IMG_0013

O N E  –  I remember meeting my baby sister for the first time in my Mum’s arms in the hospital. I was 7 years old & I recall feeling very excited that she was a girl. I immediately wanted to mother her. I saw her walk first & have always had a huge protective instinct of her. She was a beautiful baby!

T W O  – Growing up was fun with Rosie, we shared a room until I was in my later teens. She snored quite loudly so I used to throw my teddies at her head to make her turn over. I thought by throwing a soft toy it wouldn’t hurt her, she later told me my Care Bear’s nose used to hit her quite hard. Ha!

T H R E E  – Rosie has had the same group of friends from about age 4 upwards, it’s testament to her personality that she still has those friends today (amongst countless others). She’s loyal, beautiful inside & out, & incredibly caring.

F O U R  – Not many people know that my sis suffers with stomach problems. It’s a hereditary thing that didn’t carry to me or my brother Tom. We have no idea
why Rosie carries it & we don’t. She never complains although she is in pain at times (which is why not a lot of people know). We are so proud of her resilience not to let it stop her live her life to the full. I love her positive outlook on life!!

F I V E  –  Rosie is considered an ‘Outstanding’ Teacher, in regards to Ofsted, her School peers, pupils, family & friends, & yes okay if you must, the world!!! She’s incredibly intelligent but more importantly the hardest working person I know.

IMG

Look at her precious face! Happy birthday Rosie!  Have an amazing 30th birthday filled with fun, friends, family, fizz & I’m hoping for lots of cake for you!!!! (& please forgive me showing these cute pics of you!!).

It’s also my Grampy’s 100th birthday party & my Aunty’s 60th birthday this weekend! Loads of special birthdays we’re privileged to celebrate with all of them & the rest of our lovely family this weekend.

With thanks for my link up hosts, AprilChristina, Darci & Natasha.

Until the next time friends!
Have a great Friday & weekend.

Five on Friday 28th February 2014 Edition

09cc0-5onfriday-logooption1

Hey friends,

I’m back after a mini blogging break, which loosely translates to we’ve all been sick, ex-haus-ted & abit more tired with a cherry on top!!

That doesn’t mean that God hasn’t been good in these tough times, just that it’s been a rubbish couple of weeks! I’ve been blessed by my prayer triplet, mentor, a word of encouragement & a parcel from the USA.  Also I’ve been reminded of the quote ‘this too will pass’ & so it will.

So here goes with my joy-filled Five!!!

ONE – Planning Sweet Bea’s 1st Birthday

It’s so special to plan your baby’s 1st birthday. If you follow me on Pinterest you will see a little board sneaked in for ideas for my gorgeous girl’s special day.

Tissue paper pom-pom’s, a ruffled cake & pink macaroons are in the plan.

POM POM

I’ll post pictures next week & we’ll see if it all comes together. Whatever happens I’m so blessed to be celebrating this precious little girl with our friends & family. What a joy she is.

Look how cute her invitations turned out! I used a company called Simply to Impress online & was really pleased with the service. The cards are really good quality.

SWEET BEA INVITATION

With SB’s 1st birthday also brings the end of the baby stage. It’s emotional/we made it!

TWO – Chalk Paint Ercol Chairs

I’m so happy I decided finally to get my Ercol chairs painted with chalk paint! I love the look & Ercol are back on trend. Have a look & let me know what you think.

ERCOL 2 ERCOL 3 ERCOL 5 ercol 1

The 3 different colours idea came from seeing the styling at Ravenhurst B&B in Cheltenham, their colour way really pops! I really love colour & the colours we chose go so well with our scheme at home.

Farrow & Ball // Lime White // Pavilion Grey // Oval Room Blue

THREE – Spring is on it’s Way

I’m overjoyed to see the first signs of Spring. I’m so over Winter.

Me & Sweet Harry planted some bulbs last year & he’s so excited to see the little shoots coming up.

All around my hometown I see daffodils, primroses & snowdrops & every sighting lifts my heart a little. Yay for Spring!

FOUR – My ‘Geek Chic’ Glasses

I didn’t get on with contacts in the end so after I resigned myself to glasses it took me an AGE to choose a pair.

As soon as I switched optician & walked into Specsavers I was sold on these Gok Wan designer specs. I only really need them for driving but find myself wearing these a lot more than I need to. I have another pair as sunglasses.

GOK WAN

I thought the service was brilliant & was interested to hear GW himself designed their uniforms, good work!

FIVE – Sprinkle of Glitter Motivational Monday

creativity

This gal always hits the mark with her blog posts, I especially enjoy Louise’s Motivational Monday feature. This is the post that spoke to me most this month.

Thanks to my hosts, April, Christina, Darci & Natasha.

See you in March friends!

Making Photo’s into a Painting

Hi friends,

I’ve got to shout about a new app I found out about  from the 5 on Friday link up party!

Waterlogue is a paid app, for £1.99 you can turn your photo’s into watercolour paintings in a variety of washes & styles! Be warned you will be on it for hours getting the right effect to your photo.

20140208-084307.jpg

I found the ones that worked best were photo’s that didn’t have a close up of faces, it made a pretty scary picture especially with the eyes & mouth ala the Joker in Batman!

wash3 wash2 wash1

The pictures of the children either from the back or side or slightly off centre worked far better.

What a great way to capture our children in a new & different way!!

I really love this one of hubs & SH at Portland Lighthouse on NYE 2013.

wash harry&daddy

How cool would these look as canvas!

I’d love to play around some more & see if I can turn these into awesome canvases, they’d make a great gift.

If you download the app you can share your painting & join the party on Instagram #waterlogue

Have fun with it! See you on Insta.

Have a great day

5 on Friday – 31st January 2014 Edition

09cc0-5onfriday-logooption1

Happy end of January all,

I’m surprised how fast this month has gone! Usually for me Jan is the dullest month, but we’ve had so many ‘firsts’ this month & lots we’ve achieved; so let’s go straight to my 5!

With thanks to April, Christina, Darci & Natasha.

O N E – Lizzie Somerset’s First Guest Post

I was super excited to have been asked by the lovely Karen at 365 Pearls of Wisdom to do a guest post.  My first one ever, take a look at my guest post here Pearl #65!

Lizzie 365 Pearls of Wisdom

We had a mama/blogger dinner date out at my local TableTable & agreed I would speak about anxiety & Post-Natal Anxiety.  It’s an issue that I feel needs to be spoken about so that people who are suffering with it know they’re not alone, & the steps I’ve taken to overcome mine.  I truly hope & pray my story impacts, encourages & goes some way to helping someone else.

T W O – Sweet Bea’s First Tooth

Tooth

This has been A LONG TIME COMING!!!!!!!!!!!! Man oh man my sweet, sweet babe has been growing this tooth FOREVER so we are so happy it’s finally popped through.  We’re still up in the night & SB needs to be held A LOT to be kept happy but we are celebrating this milestone & coming back to a love of Calpol.

T H R E E – Sweet Bea Standing Up

SB Standing Up

It’s been quite a month for SB! She actually started pulling herself up last month but now she stays stood up & prefers standing to sitting! She follows her big bro in everything she possibly can. It makes such a difference having a sibling to how quickly my second has done things like this, she’s 10 months old. Celebrate good times!

F O U R – Planning our Holidays

There’s just something about the grey days & possibly something to do with all the holiday ads on tv that bring my mind to warmer climes.

I’ve been looking back over our honeymoon pics in St Lucia & wishing I could be whisked away back there but anyway, what I’d really like is to find somewhere abroad maybe a villa with a pool, but I’m also mindful of dangers with pools so it would need to be safe for pre-schoolers/crawlers/nearly walkers!

If anyone knows of anything in a warm country in Europe that is super kid friendly, I’m taking recommendations!! I’m also tentatively interested in a house swap but I’m a newbie to the concept, baby steps.

F I V E – Jesus Calling Devotional

Jesus Calling v2

I’ve spoken about my gift of this devotional HERE & even though I haven’t managed to read it everyday I have read every page, I love that it’s short enough that I can catch up if I get behind with it.  Here’s the one that has spoken to me the most this month.

Devotional 5 on Friday

I’d love to hear about what you’re up to, how was your Jan? Thinking about holibobs?

Until next time friends

Have a great day!

Comparison Part Deux

theodore

Source

Hey friends,

I’ve been thinking a lot about this hot topic recently.  COMPARISON, it’s everywhere.

I posted the other day about comparison taking away ALL of our joy, but I must admit I’ve had a re-think! Mostly because I mis-quoted (sorry Theodore Roosevelt) but also because it’s just something that’s been stirring away in me for awhile.

We need to compare things, that just makes sense.  Say I have a pear in each hand, one is ripe & ready to eat, the other is bruised & looking a bit beyond it, which one would I choose to eat? I need to compare to make educated decisions.

I think my point was (& is) that when I get so wrapped up in what other people have or what they do then that robs me of my joy.

The reason it robs my joy is that the person I look up to (& put on a pedestal), the DREAM job/career person, the go-getter, the Type A personality in the stunning clothes, with perfect hair & perfect family. They don’t always show the hard work, the sacrifice of family time or the downright mundane of the job they do.  They makes it look so easy so I assume it is easy.

Who knows what that person had to go through to get that coveted job, work all the hours God sends? Maybe they’ve had to ‘fake it til you make it’ & are so fed up of the fake & just want to get away & take skiing lessons or go to Hawaii & surf & ‘find themselves’.  Maybe they look at someone like me & think ‘I’d love to stay home with my kids, that would be my dream job’!  Or maybe they were pushed so hard as a child they felt they HAD to get the top career or they’d be seen as a failure by their family. Or it might really be all it’s cracked up to be.

Whatever your situation is, sometimes the grass does look greener & maybe it is. Maybe one day I will have the dream career in writing/journalism/features. But if I don’t ever get that career, or go on that amazing trip or whatever it is for you, does that diminish who I am? Does it diminish who you are? I say NO WAY!

So compare away friends, because that’s natural & human.  But each time you start comparing with someone else’s life, think, does it advance you, or does it hold you back? I’m thinking that if it’s not a helpful comparison then acknowledge it, don’t judge it; then let it go & move on.

If it is helpful, then harness it & use it positively to learn & build a better version of yourself. But do it for YOU, not because you feel you HAVE to in order to look or feel successful for other people. That’s when you’ll be robbed of your joy.

noble

Be encouraged, you are enough just as you are. If you’re not happy, compare wisely, choose joy & make plans.

Thanks for stopping by to read my thoughts, I hope you’re having a great day!

Lizzie xoxoxo

Comparison is the Thief of all Joy

I’ve only just come to realise how true these words are.  Note how it states ALL joy? So by comparing myself to others I’m literally stripping myself of ALL joy? WOW what a realisation!

So, it’s time for me friends to no longer compare my situation, body size, height, beauty, family, clothes, holidays, schools, education, houses, lifestyle, car, technology or anything else for that matter to someone else’s.

Because I choose Joy.

Until the next time friends, have a great day.

Lizzie xoxo
