Take a Moment – A View of Perfectionism

20140414-222942.jpg

Perfectionism. Sounds perfect doesn’t it?

A person who has perfectionism must always be top of their game. Top of everything in fact!

Their house must be spotless, beautifully decorated, their kids are polite, well dressed, destined for great things.

They’re successful.
Popular.
Throw the best parties.

They have prospects & aim high!

The problem is they have perfectionism. It’s the core. Trust me, it’s like an illness.

It won’t kill you, it will just make shame part of every day life.

People who suffer with perfectionism are not perfectionists. A perfectionist is someone who is good with the finer points, the detail.

This is much, much more complex.

Perfectionism sees what the world wants you to be, magnifies it x10000 & sets that as the target, if you can’t hit the target? Yep, shame!

The sad thing about it is the person with perfectionism will never reach the lofty heights they set themselves because the high expectations are so high they are literally unreachable!!

They want to be the best. But when the best isn’t possible & they fail again, because it’s exhausting or just totally unacheivable…there it is again, shame.

I’m popping the spotlight on perfectionism today because at the end of last year I realised I suffered with this personality trait. When I read the definition for it, everything clicked into place.

When I had Sweet Harry I was desperate to be a Yummy Mummy. One of those women who looked amazing, had an easy baby, well dressed, house up together, hair & make up beautifully done. I would bake & cook nutritious meals. Clean & decorate. Host coffee mornings & laugh easily with other Mother’s on buggy walks.

Then I had the baby.

The dream that I would be a perfect mother crumbled. Yummy Mummy? More like Crummy Mummy!

Who knew having a baby would
1. Knock you for six.
2. Leave you feeling exhausted, inadequate & totally clueless.

For a person with perfectionism, tiredness was not an option because tiredness equalled failure. If you’re exhausted, you can’t be doing it right.

Ever heard of procrastination? Perfectionism is procrastination just in a prettier word.

I’m at the point now where I know when it flares up & how to control it. But when I didn’t even know what it was or that I had it, it held me back.

If this resonates with you look up perfectionism & start on the road to combat it.

It’s not what God wants for your life.

He sent his son Jesus to die on the cross at Easter so that I can be free. He loves me for who I am, not what I achieve.

For my children He wants a Mother who is THERE & shows LOVE. Not a beautifully decorated home.

For my husband, he asks me to be a PRESENT wife, ready to hear. Not a beautifully made up dolly bird.

For my friends he asks me to PRAY & stand with them in all aspects of their lives. Not to be the centre of attention or the perfect hostess.

Let’s be real. What is perfect anyway? I know now I am enough.

Celebrate the small successes. Count your blessings. Live in the moment.

Let Grace deal with the rest.

Until the next time friends
Have a great day

It’s the Little Things – Easter 2014

Hey friends,

I’m linking up with Jess & Ashley for It’s the Little Things!

image

Today I took my sweet kiddos to town.  I took the bull by the horns, made the decision to go, took a deep breath & packed the bags & went.  No thinking time allowed!!

We had no major meltdowns & made it there & back in one piece. Hi-fives all round please (ala Phoebe with the babies in Friends).

The more I practice Mindfulness, staying in the moment, the more things that are so simple to other people is becoming simple to me too! Now that has got to be worth celebrating on this normal Wednesday, break out the champagne & strawberries (cup of tea & a biscuit).

We went to Wilko’s & Poundland to pick up Easter craft supplies.  I was pleasantly surprised how many little packs of crafts there were, so in normal Lizzie style I couldn’t decide which crafts to get so we got most of them!

I figured I’ll have Sweet Harry for two weeks for the preschool holidays so we’ll need lots of things to keep us busy.

Easter 3

Our Easter dresser looks quite the part.  We’re looking forward to Easter in the Somerset house!

20140331-173158.jpgEaster 5

I went on to the Wilko & Poundland websites & searched ‘Easter’ to pop the links on here, the two websites are quite a contrast!  I think Poundland might have the Easter win on this one, but thanks for selling a Arab Man in Large for £15 Wilko!! Have a peek for a giggle.

What are your plans for Easter holidays? We’ve got a lot of crafts to get through so check you all later!

Have a great day!

I may be mad but I’ve nominated myself (because sometimes the ship comes to you)! I would love it if you would nominate me if my blog has inspired or encouraged you, you like reading about my life with the sweet kiddos, for my home style or the very fact I’m a new blog with absolutely no bells & whistles (still green/learning). I’d be made up if you nominated me, but as with everything with me, no pressure no problem! LOVE LIZZIE XOXOXOXOXO

The Next Quarter

20140331-173158.jpg

Hey friends,

Woah it’s the end of March! Where’d that go!? It means the end of the first quarter of 2014, I know!

I hope you enjoyed reading about my small joys last week.

The new month also brings with it longer days, warmer weather (here’s hoping) & a new event to decorate the house for.

Yup, Easter 2014 is now fast approaching. Easter is by far my favourite religious holiday. First because it’s tells to gospel of Jesus, no longer the baby of Christmas but a perfect grown man & King who died for us all. A perfect man? I know!

Next, definitely secondary but still full of joy, everything pastel!!! Eggs, bunnies, Easter gardens, egg hunts, felt decorations & little chicks! All signifying the Hope in new life. The kids are going to LOVE it!

Love, love, love it all!!

I hope you’ll join me on the old bloggity blog, for Easter 2014!!

Warning: Pinterest will be used generously.

See you soon friends

Small Joys – ONE

Hey friends, as promised all this week I’m going to be publishing short, sharp posts about what’s been floating my boat this quarter!

Are y’all as happy as me Spring is just around the corner?  I can’t wait for the longer days.

At New Year I inferred this little blog might be getting a cute redesign, it’s still very much in the infancy stage but I am really enjoying searching Pinterest for any inspiration that I think suits my personality & what I want the blog to look like. It’s a way of getting across to my web techy friend what is in my head without trying to describe it & failing to get across what I mean.

It has to look like me, you know?

Have a look at my mood board so far. It’s all about colours & patterns, & I’m using anything & everything as inspiration. Tiles, art, design, home decor, nature & even wedding pins & other blogs too.

Feel free to send me any pins you think I might like, I’d love your input.

Have you ever had to design a website or blog? What did you look to for inspiration?

Until the next time friends
Have a great day!

Five on Friday 28th February 2014 Edition

09cc0-5onfriday-logooption1

Hey friends,

I’m back after a mini blogging break, which loosely translates to we’ve all been sick, ex-haus-ted & abit more tired with a cherry on top!!

That doesn’t mean that God hasn’t been good in these tough times, just that it’s been a rubbish couple of weeks! I’ve been blessed by my prayer triplet, mentor, a word of encouragement & a parcel from the USA.  Also I’ve been reminded of the quote ‘this too will pass’ & so it will.

So here goes with my joy-filled Five!!!

ONE – Planning Sweet Bea’s 1st Birthday

It’s so special to plan your baby’s 1st birthday. If you follow me on Pinterest you will see a little board sneaked in for ideas for my gorgeous girl’s special day.

Tissue paper pom-pom’s, a ruffled cake & pink macaroons are in the plan.

POM POM

I’ll post pictures next week & we’ll see if it all comes together. Whatever happens I’m so blessed to be celebrating this precious little girl with our friends & family. What a joy she is.

Look how cute her invitations turned out! I used a company called Simply to Impress online & was really pleased with the service. The cards are really good quality.

SWEET BEA INVITATION

With SB’s 1st birthday also brings the end of the baby stage. It’s emotional/we made it!

TWO – Chalk Paint Ercol Chairs

I’m so happy I decided finally to get my Ercol chairs painted with chalk paint! I love the look & Ercol are back on trend. Have a look & let me know what you think.

ERCOL 2 ERCOL 3 ERCOL 5 ercol 1

The 3 different colours idea came from seeing the styling at Ravenhurst B&B in Cheltenham, their colour way really pops! I really love colour & the colours we chose go so well with our scheme at home.

Farrow & Ball // Lime White // Pavilion Grey // Oval Room Blue

THREE – Spring is on it’s Way

I’m overjoyed to see the first signs of Spring. I’m so over Winter.

Me & Sweet Harry planted some bulbs last year & he’s so excited to see the little shoots coming up.

All around my hometown I see daffodils, primroses & snowdrops & every sighting lifts my heart a little. Yay for Spring!

FOUR – My ‘Geek Chic’ Glasses

I didn’t get on with contacts in the end so after I resigned myself to glasses it took me an AGE to choose a pair.

As soon as I switched optician & walked into Specsavers I was sold on these Gok Wan designer specs. I only really need them for driving but find myself wearing these a lot more than I need to. I have another pair as sunglasses.

GOK WAN

I thought the service was brilliant & was interested to hear GW himself designed their uniforms, good work!

FIVE – Sprinkle of Glitter Motivational Monday

creativity

This gal always hits the mark with her blog posts, I especially enjoy Louise’s Motivational Monday feature. This is the post that spoke to me most this month.

Thanks to my hosts, April, Christina, Darci & Natasha.

See you in March friends!

Christmas Eve Joys

09cc0-5onfriday-logooption1

My goodness it’s only Christmas Eve! It feels like it’s taken an age to get here & then crept up on me at the last minute!

To celebrate the most wonderful time of the year, here are my five joys this Christmas Eve (not Friday but close…) Thanks Natasha, April, Christina & Darci.

O N E   A gift to myself – Choosing to Love My Hometown.

church christmas eve

It’s a crime not to gift oneself during Christmas.  Loving my hometown hasn’t been easy but my journey this year has seen me turning some inbuilt ideals & pedestal placement on their head. Instead of following the crowd I’ve been working out ‘well, what do you think?’

Read my post HERE about my passion for Yeovil’s industry, community & innovation.

I’m looking forward to celebrating my family Christmas right here, & it starts right now.

T W O   Sweet Bea’s First Christmas & Sweet Harry’s Fourth!

Is there anything more precious than a baby’s first Christmas? Apart from all the Christmasses that follow (& Mama/baby matching outfits)?!

mama baby

Seeing the fairy lights in their eyes, the tiny cards from little friends & SH singing in the Preschool sing-a-long are highlights so far. Christmas through these sweet babes’ eyes, I want to hold on to these moments forever.

T H R E E   Personalised Christmas Stockings

20131222-183003.jpg

I’m beyond obsessed with personalising everything! Especially at Christmas, if I can stick a name or monogram on it, I will. I really enjoyed choosing our little family’s stockings from Pottery Barn. These beauties are just as lovely in reality as online. They were so easy to  order & thank goodness they were worth the shipping costs (phew)!

F O U R   My BFF’s Gift

20130928-080616.jpg

I CANNOT wait to give my BFF Roberta her gift this year. I will share it with you once it’s reached its owner! I loved it so much I got one too. No-one could be a more loyal & loving friend. Happy Christmas B!

F  I V E   Looking forward to New Year

This year I’m actually looking forward to New Year! In past years I have found it to easy to focus on disappointments of ideas that didn’t come to fruition or friends I didn’t catch up with or other things I’d set my sights on. Yes, I think it’s good to look back on the year & reflect on those things that didn’t go so well, but to use that reflection for good change. I also think it’s great to reflect on our successes, my children’s journey & on the things that worked out really well!

My New Years resolution is to say ‘should’ less & ‘will’ more.

sparkle

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year 2014! Cheers to new adventures, I hope you’ll join me in mine.

Until the next time friends!
Have a great day

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

So I’ve finally allowed myself to feel Christmassy today.

It was our Church Christmas Service & although I was disappointed Harry didn’t sing at the front (he ran around at the back instead) it was a lovely family service.

My sister & brother in law have arrived heralding with them the start of our festivities!

It’s not often these days we’re all together so this next week is going to be great!

We had a big family lunch & I looked around the table at my favourite faces & felt very blessed we could all be together this Christmas.

We drove round town afterwards posting cards by hand & listening to Christmas songs.

I’ve been putting the final touches to our decorations (those the kitten hadn’t trashed, there will be no pictures of the tree) & put up our vintage posters!

Here is our Holly Jolly Home Tour!

Merry Christmas friends
Until the next time

A Cotswold Getaway

Hey friends,

We’ve just been away sans kids for a birthday/Christmas getaway!  We practically ran out of the door, suitcase in hand for a night away in the Cotswold Regency Town of Cheltenham.

It’s a town we know well having many friends & countless visits over the years. We’ve always stayed with friends, this time we decided to find a hotel, rather last minute as a treat.  We didn’t take into account that is was a Race Weekend though & everywhere I tried was booked! Hubby took over & boy am I glad he did!

Ravenhurst B & B is new, I absolutely believe that’s the only reason we got a room here, because once the secret is out I guarantee it’ll be booked up months in advance!!

Ravenhurst House

Can you imagine my face when we drew up to this house? Uh huh, jaw to the ground moment, the boy did good.

Ravenhurst Door Ravenhurst Stairs Ravenhurst Banksy style Ravenhurst Ercol

I don’t think I’ve ever stayed anywhere so nice, the house is beautiful.

The home decor is tasteful, modern with a Banksy feel but not too cold, a lovely mix of personal & designer pieces! I especially loved the painted Ercol chairs. A look I’ll be stealing for my Ercol chairs so watch out for that next year!

The welcome here is very warm. Alex is the lady of the house & we met Andy soon after.

As it was such a busy weekend we hadn’t factored in getting a taxi to our restaurant to celebrate our friend Lady Corrie’s 30th (yup, a real lady). We alerted Andy & Alex to the fact that all the taxis were booked up & Andy immediately offered us a lift, no problems. You all know how much I appreciate above & beyond!

The room we were given is HUGE! We stayed in Fig Tree, with a little hall in the middle & a bathroom with underfloor heating, a massive shower head & Orla Kiely complimentary bathroom bits.  The bed was extremely comfortable & again massive, I lost hubby in it. Fantastic!

The hospitality continued with a fry up English breakfast, toast, juice & an endless supply of coffee & tea.  Very much needed after an evening celebrating with a lot of red wine!

Ravenhurst Lizzie

We left feeling very happy that everywhere else had been booked. It’s a little gem!! Look at the website here or follow them on Twitter

Until the next time friends
Have a great day!
