Take a Moment – The Monet Effect

Hey friends,

monet effect

The Monet Effect, it hit me this morning….

Do you look at others & think they have it all sorted?

Do you wish you were cool, calm & collected with your kids 100% of the time? Just like the parents you see on Social Media with the flawless blog & your friends with the creative & well dressed kids?

Do you ever look at someone & think ‘they have it all’?

I was looking out of my bedroom window this morning.  It’s a hot, sunny day here in Somerset.  I’m fortunate enough to live with a beautiful & far reaching countryside view.  Somerset sure has beautiful rolling hills & is the essence of English country living.  I have a blissful view, for sure!

As I looked out of my window I glanced down at our hedge.  Our neighbour had trimmed their side of the hedge making our side look straggly, unsightly & well *gasp* unmaintained.  I was slightly mortified that I’d let the side down.  Perfectionism really does suck sometimes.

But then I looked at the hills in the distance & thought how beautiful & perfect the view was.

I was gently reminded  of a film I watched over & over again with my sissy called ‘Clueless’.  I know that film inside out & this quote from it came to mind!

Tai : ‘What’s a Monet?’

Cher: ‘It’s like a painting, see? From far away, it’s OK, but up close, it’s a big old mess.’

Not wanting to say Monet paintings are a big mess, no disrespect intended I love Monet.  But using the point that up close IN THE VIEW would not be so pefect after all.

There would be litter, weeds, bugs & alsorts.  Sometimes things aren’t what they seem from a distance.

Sometimes people & what they ‘have’ seem perfect with abit of distance between you & them. Do you find that you are way more envious of people when you don’t actually know the in’s & out’s of their daily lives & their struggles?

Everyone has flaws, everyone has issues, that’s a fact.

Next time you think someone else has it far better than you, remember the quote!

Also, if you want a giggle look up Clueless quotes, I just had such a fit of the giggles reading through them trying to find that one.

I gotta get that film out again!

Until the next time friends, I better organise getting my hedge trimmed!  Don’t want to let the neighbourhood down!!

Have a great day all.

Take a Moment – He is With Us

It’s Monday morning friends!

Time to pause (just for a second or two), reflect, place everything in perspective & move forwards into our day, before the hectic takes over.

Sometimes Monday morning can be the most hectic of all!

Let’s do this together, because we’re family.

Pause
Breathe (in the Holy Spirit)
Focus (on Him/pray)
Give thanks (count your blessings)
Move forwards

Because God wants us to live life to the full.

It only takes a moment. He is with us. It’s promised.

Until the next time friends
Have a great day!

Take a Moment – Good Friday 2014

Hey friends,

I hope you are all looking forward to an Easter weekend with friends & family as much as we are?!

For me as a follower of Christ, I love Easter. It’s by far my favourite holiday!

I think this is mainly due to the fact that Jesus actually gets a mention here & there, & that warms my heart!

I think Easter is so much fun for children too.

For some reason I’ve been thinking a lot about passion recently. I think sometimes life can seem a bit blah & like nothing exciting is happening.

I believe in those moments of feeling stagnant that it actually may be Jesus asking us to stay still for a little while.

We’ve had a lot of changes in the Somerset ranch lately, lots of extra learned confidence, starting the blog, Sweet Harry starting preschool & Sweet Bea starting nursery. I’ve finally gotten to goal weight at Weight Watchers & feeling great!

So I’m seeing this season as letting things shake down & settle for a bit. Letting go & trusting God.

If I want passion I only have to look to the Cross. To the One who loves me passionately without limits & who knows me so well.

This Good Friday I’m reminded again of His goodness to me everyday, not just on this special day, but everyday where I get to share in the victory of His resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Today we’re going on an Easter egg hunt at Montacute House with the sweet kiddos! Quality family time is what we need.

To Jesus all the honour, praise & fame.

Until the next time friends.

Have a great day!

Small Joys – FIVE

Hey friends,

I was going to write about something completely different today but I have to interrupt this hiatus to concentrate on just being so thankful for my good health.

I’ve been poorly on & off since January with a Sinus infection that has been particularly persistent!

I’m so thankful that I feel much better today to celebrate my birthday.

A birthday is a good time to reflect & think about the year just past & our achievements. If you’ve been following this little blog you’ll have witnessed some of that change for the better. When I think of where I was last year & how God has brought me on I’m in such a different place.

But as I celebrate I’m reminded of those who are really, really sick. Those in hospital, taken unwell unexpectedly, those who are ill at home & those for who illness is a daily existence. Two years ago I was really unwell myself & having this awful cold really reminded me of that time.

In this life it’s so easy to get wrapped up in how we feel at any given time in our own little lives. It’s sometimes hard to see outside that.

So today I’m going to celebrate my birthday & really feel joy, with my family & those who are important to me & be thankful for them & my health which truly is a gift today.

Here are my beautiful gifts from my beautiful little family!

Until the next time friends.
Have a great day!

Small Joys – FOUR

No biggie today (they are small joys after all) but this year saw Sweet Harry start swimming lessons.

I don’t know why but I’ve always found taking SH swimming a bit of a logistical nightmare.

Who gets changed first? Do you get yourself dry & sit the baby/preschooler on the floor with a towel around them? Or get them sorted while shivering & dripping on the changing room floor?

Anyway I’m glad to say thanks to Saturday swimming lessons (meaning Mr Somerset can come too) & the fact we go to a private pool (oh yeah) makes it a much less stressful experience.

We decided firstly to take Sweet Bea when she was a little baby as I felt the earlier you start them the better. The guilt then set it that we hadn’t taken SH from a young age.

So we now take both kids to their swimming lessons on a Saturday & they absolutely love it!!!

It’s a real joy to see the kids enjoying the water & going under water, also seeing hubby with SB having a splash & having that Dad/Daughter time.

I take SH in & he’s practically a pro already. So much more confident than I gave him credit for.

The water is so warm & the wonderful instructor & the way the company operates makes it so easy for us.

I’m so glad we found Water Babies. That’s our Saturdays sorted!

Small Joys – TWO

Hey friends,

Part Two of my Five part series this week of some of my joys since New Year that have stood out!

March 7th 2014 is a date that will forever be in my heart. My sweet, sweet Harry told me he loved me for the first time.

I know! How have I had to wait near enough 3 and a half years to hear this!

Being a mama is sometimes a thankless task, but I knew it would all be worth while when they wrap their chubby arms around you, nestle in your neck & say those words. Right? Well I got the hugs, just not the words.

I’d say to SH ‘I love you’ soooo much, & wait for a little while afterwards for a response, & nothing!! For 3 and a half years, nothing. Nada. Zip.

It was worth waiting for. He looked at me, hugged my neck & said ‘I love my Mummy’.

Of course as it goes with this things he’s said it loads since! But that first time was so special.

Hope your week is great friends, & full of hints of Spring.

Until the next time friends
Have a great day!

An unintentional break

Hey friends, first apologies for neglecting you all, sickness has hit me yet again & I’m at long last admitting defeat & taking myself to the doctor.

I’m more than hopeful I’ll feel better for my birthday on Friday!

So this week to show you a little bit of the joys I’ve enjoyed over the last couple of months I’m going to be posting some short blog posts over the week.

I hope you enjoy them!

Five on Friday 14th March 2014 Edition

09cc0-5onfriday-logooption1

Today’s link up is such a sweet one for me. It’s my beautiful sissy’s 30th birthday today!! I can’t quite believe my baby sister is 30!!

So my Five this week are all about Rosie!

IMG_0013

O N E  –  I remember meeting my baby sister for the first time in my Mum’s arms in the hospital. I was 7 years old & I recall feeling very excited that she was a girl. I immediately wanted to mother her. I saw her walk first & have always had a huge protective instinct of her. She was a beautiful baby!

T W O  – Growing up was fun with Rosie, we shared a room until I was in my later teens. She snored quite loudly so I used to throw my teddies at her head to make her turn over. I thought by throwing a soft toy it wouldn’t hurt her, she later told me my Care Bear’s nose used to hit her quite hard. Ha!

T H R E E  – Rosie has had the same group of friends from about age 4 upwards, it’s testament to her personality that she still has those friends today (amongst countless others). She’s loyal, beautiful inside & out, & incredibly caring.

F O U R  – Not many people know that my sis suffers with stomach problems. It’s a hereditary thing that didn’t carry to me or my brother Tom. We have no idea
why Rosie carries it & we don’t. She never complains although she is in pain at times (which is why not a lot of people know). We are so proud of her resilience not to let it stop her live her life to the full. I love her positive outlook on life!!

F I V E  –  Rosie is considered an ‘Outstanding’ Teacher, in regards to Ofsted, her School peers, pupils, family & friends, & yes okay if you must, the world!!! She’s incredibly intelligent but more importantly the hardest working person I know.

Look at her precious face! Happy birthday Rosie!  Have an amazing 30th birthday filled with fun, friends, family, fizz & I’m hoping for lots of cake for you!!!! (& please forgive me showing these cute pics of you!!).

It’s also my Grampy’s 100th birthday party & my Aunty’s 60th birthday this weekend! Loads of special birthdays we’re privileged to celebrate with all of them & the rest of our lovely family this weekend.

With thanks for my link up hosts, AprilChristina, Darci & Natasha.

Until the next time friends!
Have a great Friday & weekend.

Thankful, but

Hi friends,

I hope you’re having a great week!

I know the title looks unfinished but it’s on purpose. ‘But’ is the silent word in this case, that always seems to be there after the word ‘thankful. I can only talk about myself & my situation, but I struggle sometimes with being thankful.

I read a post by one of our leaders at Church who wrote about being thankful in our social media updates. Negative updates have a way of really bringing people down & I try (& sometimes fail) to write positive status updates, so this post really resonated with me.

You know me friends, I’m all for being positive, but it got me thinking about being thankful & how truly thankful I am for what I have & my situation.

Whenever I start saying ‘I’m so thankful for my house’ I say in my head, ‘but it will be even better when…we get the bathroom done’, or…’we get a patio in our garden, THEN it’ll be really amazing’.

I’m the same with the kiddos! ‘I’m so thankful for my sweet children’ ‘but it’ll be so much easier when they’re older, can walk, can talk, sleep through the night, go to school’.

My goodness, I have to wonder with my seemingly inexhaustible list of ‘but’s’ am I truly thankful??

The bible says be thankful for things just as they are, that includes in times of trouble. When you’re unwell or plain dog tired, being thankful is tough! No, ifs, buts or maybes about it! Am I thankful? I’m working on it, seriously.

I have to conclude that being thankful & being content are one & the same! I’m also thinking that He calls me to not complain (which is a hobby of mine). Are they all tied up together?

I’m not theologically minded, but I know when things make sense. When we’re content with our lives just as they are, with all of life’s up’s & down’s, surely we are more open to being thankful?! Is the silent ‘but’ actually a complaint?

I don’t have the answers, I’m just talking out loud. Let me know what you think.

‘Today I’m thankful for…….,’ shouldn’t have a silent ‘but’ after it, just as an apology with a ‘but’ at the end isn’t really an apology!!!

For me, I’m going to practice being content, & thanking God for my situation even when I want to say ‘but’. I’m asking Him to prompt me to say ‘thanks’ instead.

Until the next time friends.
Have a great day!
