Five on Friday 28th February 2014 Edition

Hey friends,

I’m back after a mini blogging break, which loosely translates to we’ve all been sick, ex-haus-ted & abit more tired with a cherry on top!!

That doesn’t mean that God hasn’t been good in these tough times, just that it’s been a rubbish couple of weeks! I’ve been blessed by my prayer triplet, mentor, a word of encouragement & a parcel from the USA.  Also I’ve been reminded of the quote ‘this too will pass’ & so it will.

So here goes with my joy-filled Five!!!

ONE – Planning Sweet Bea’s 1st Birthday

It’s so special to plan your baby’s 1st birthday. If you follow me on Pinterest you will see a little board sneaked in for ideas for my gorgeous girl’s special day.

Tissue paper pom-pom’s, a ruffled cake & pink macaroons are in the plan.

I’ll post pictures next week & we’ll see if it all comes together. Whatever happens I’m so blessed to be celebrating this precious little girl with our friends & family. What a joy she is.

Look how cute her invitations turned out! I used a company called Simply to Impress online & was really pleased with the service. The cards are really good quality.

With SB’s 1st birthday also brings the end of the baby stage. It’s emotional/we made it!

TWO – Chalk Paint Ercol Chairs

I’m so happy I decided finally to get my Ercol chairs painted with chalk paint! I love the look & Ercol are back on trend. Have a look & let me know what you think.

ERCOL 2 ERCOL 3 ERCOL 5 ercol 1

The 3 different colours idea came from seeing the styling at Ravenhurst B&B in Cheltenham, their colour way really pops! I really love colour & the colours we chose go so well with our scheme at home.

Farrow & Ball // Lime White // Pavilion Grey // Oval Room Blue

THREE – Spring is on it’s Way

I’m overjoyed to see the first signs of Spring. I’m so over Winter.

Me & Sweet Harry planted some bulbs last year & he’s so excited to see the little shoots coming up.

All around my hometown I see daffodils, primroses & snowdrops & every sighting lifts my heart a little. Yay for Spring!

FOUR – My ‘Geek Chic’ Glasses

I didn’t get on with contacts in the end so after I resigned myself to glasses it took me an AGE to choose a pair.

As soon as I switched optician & walked into Specsavers I was sold on these Gok Wan designer specs. I only really need them for driving but find myself wearing these a lot more than I need to. I have another pair as sunglasses.

I thought the service was brilliant & was interested to hear GW himself designed their uniforms, good work!

FIVE – Sprinkle of Glitter Motivational Monday

This gal always hits the mark with her blog posts, I especially enjoy Louise’s Motivational Monday feature. This is the post that spoke to me most this month.

Thanks to my hosts, April, Christina, Darci & Natasha.

See you in March friends!

5 on Friday – 31st January 2014 Edition

Happy end of January all,

I’m surprised how fast this month has gone! Usually for me Jan is the dullest month, but we’ve had so many ‘firsts’ this month & lots we’ve achieved; so let’s go straight to my 5!

With thanks to April, Christina, Darci & Natasha.

O N E – Lizzie Somerset’s First Guest Post

I was super excited to have been asked by the lovely Karen at 365 Pearls of Wisdom to do a guest post.  My first one ever, take a look at my guest post here Pearl #65!

Lizzie 365 Pearls of Wisdom

We had a mama/blogger dinner date out at my local TableTable & agreed I would speak about anxiety & Post-Natal Anxiety.  It’s an issue that I feel needs to be spoken about so that people who are suffering with it know they’re not alone, & the steps I’ve taken to overcome mine.  I truly hope & pray my story impacts, encourages & goes some way to helping someone else.

T W O – Sweet Bea’s First Tooth

This has been A LONG TIME COMING!!!!!!!!!!!! Man oh man my sweet, sweet babe has been growing this tooth FOREVER so we are so happy it’s finally popped through.  We’re still up in the night & SB needs to be held A LOT to be kept happy but we are celebrating this milestone & coming back to a love of Calpol.

T H R E E – Sweet Bea Standing Up

SB Standing Up

It’s been quite a month for SB! She actually started pulling herself up last month but now she stays stood up & prefers standing to sitting! She follows her big bro in everything she possibly can. It makes such a difference having a sibling to how quickly my second has done things like this, she’s 10 months old. Celebrate good times!

F O U R – Planning our Holidays

There’s just something about the grey days & possibly something to do with all the holiday ads on tv that bring my mind to warmer climes.

I’ve been looking back over our honeymoon pics in St Lucia & wishing I could be whisked away back there but anyway, what I’d really like is to find somewhere abroad maybe a villa with a pool, but I’m also mindful of dangers with pools so it would need to be safe for pre-schoolers/crawlers/nearly walkers!

If anyone knows of anything in a warm country in Europe that is super kid friendly, I’m taking recommendations!! I’m also tentatively interested in a house swap but I’m a newbie to the concept, baby steps.

F I V E – Jesus Calling Devotional

Jesus Calling v2

I’ve spoken about my gift of this devotional HERE & even though I haven’t managed to read it everyday I have read every page, I love that it’s short enough that I can catch up if I get behind with it.  Here’s the one that has spoken to me the most this month.

Devotional 5 on Friday

I’d love to hear about what you’re up to, how was your Jan? Thinking about holibobs?

Until next time friends

Have a great day!

January Blue’s

Hi all! I hope you had a good weekend?

Well, we’re slap bang in the middle of Jan 2014! How are you feeling?

Apparently yesterday was the most depressing day, due to being so far from the last payday & so far from the next one.  Does this bother you & completely throw your month out?

Do you get the January Blue’s?

For me it’s never been about money, it just takes me ages to get into a new year!  I hope I’m not alone!!

Last week, me & the sweet kids all had colds.  I felt rubbish, totally run down & for some reason this really affected how I held it all together (I didn’t).

The house was a tip, I didn’t stick to my healthy eating & I felt like my life was crashing down around my ears. (Mama’s aren’t allowed sick days you know).

I think it’s really important to keep assessing our goals & aims & keeping our eyes on that.  In January I find that particularly hard.  I have a perfectionist personality trait, which means that if I haven’t achieved everything I set out to achieve immediately then I get quite frustrated, beat myself up & set myself on a slippery slope down to disheartened.

Come on girl, it’s only January!

This week I feel totally different, my cold is gone, my energy is back up & we’re raring to go!

This is great, but it got me to thinking.  Could I run my home better, so that when I am sick or run down then some of the jobs can slide & it won’t feel like the whole ranch is falling apart at the seams? For me, organisation is key.  So I sat down & organised when we do our laundry, ironing, tidying, take out bins & (here’s the important part) WROTE IT ALL DOWN!

I also wrote spent an evening writing all of our plans on the calendar AND in my Filofax so that wherever I am I know what I’m doing.

2014 is going to be organised!

Here’s how I’ve planned our week in regards to chores, for us the week starts on a Saturday because we want to hit the ground running on Monday.

household organise

It feels great to get it out of my head and written down!  Now it’s a plan of action, & hopefully a routine we do every week without having to think about it.

I’ve also re-assessed how I do our weekly shop, but more on that next week!

Whatever you’re doing & however you’re feeling, don’t let the January Blue’s beat you down.  Keep your eyes on the goal.

Until next time sweet friends

Have a great day!

Comparison is the Thief of all Joy

I’ve only just come to realise how true these words are.  Note how it states ALL joy? So by comparing myself to others I’m literally stripping myself of ALL joy? WOW what a realisation!

So, it’s time for me friends to no longer compare my situation, body size, height, beauty, family, clothes, holidays, schools, education, houses, lifestyle, car, technology or anything else for that matter to someone else’s.

Because I choose Joy.

Until the next time friends, have a great day.

Five on Friday – New Year’s Edition

Hi friends,

Linking up once again with April, Christina, Darci & Natasha.  Thanks ladies!

I thought I would let you all in on my little resolutions & plans for 2014.

If you read my post you will know I have suffered with anxiety, at some points it was really hard going, especially mixed with a bit of Post Natal Anxiety.  I have to admit in those really hard times I have shut myself away from the world.

However, part of my resolve list in 2013 was to focus on my own well-being, being more positive & looking after my body & mind.  Since setting on that road I can honestly say I’ve never felt better.

I was recommended an app called Headspace which you can download for free on your iPhone.  It’s quite amazing how quickly it changed things for me.  I don’t feel the need to use it every day, but it’s there if I need it.

Read more about Headspace & whether it could help you here.

harry play on floor

What’s the point in being a SAHM if my whole day is spent doing the dishes, cooking, laundry, supermarket shopping & the mundane?

I need to remind myself daily why I stayed home, get down with the kids on the floor, & just have some FUN with them! E V E R Y  D A Y.

The days go by so quickly, & too many have passed without me just being with them, totally focused on just playing, or reading to them.  I need to do this intentionally before they decide not to bother trying anymore.

Redesign, possibly sponsoring another blog, inviting other bloggers to guest post & hosting giveaways may be in this blog’s future!

I’ve been blown away by all the views & support I’ve had since I started blogging in August.

I’ve also got the domain name, so watch out for the switch to self-hosted!

What can I say, it’s exciting stuff being planned in this Somerset ranch for 2014!

I have no idea yet what this may be!

I’m one for planning our holidays/trips so I feel in control, but since I’ve started practicing Mindfulness/Headspace I’m more open to whatever adventure comes my way.

Maybe it will be a trip with girlfriends, or a blogging conference?! All I know is, when I get to the end of 2014, I will look back & know what that adventure was.

For me, nothing is possible without the love & grace of God. If I’m not inline with His plans  then things tend to go awry!

My SIL Deb got me this beautiful devotional called Jesus Calling by Sarah Young for Christmas, so I’m intending use this gift & spend time in His presence every day. (Please also note the beautiful new Filofax which will hopefully keep me more organised! I NEED IT!)

sweet bea 10 months

Finally, can I also just add it’s my Sweet Bea’s TENTH MOTHERSARY TODAY! Oh my goodness, seriously where did the time go!?  She’s just the most adorable, funniest, happiest baby girl in the world! She’s teething, trying to stand all the time & throws most of her food on the floor, but my goodness our life is so much richer for having her. Love you so much my little dink.

Until the next time friends.
Have a great day!

BFF Christmas Gift

Okay so I’ve had a couple of reminders to show you what I got my BFF Roberta for Christmas.

I didn’t see her face when she opened it but she assures me she hasn’t taken it off so WIN there. Yay for monograms!!

I might have got one for me too!

Gotta love Etsy!

Until the next time
Have a great day!

Unwelcome Party Guest

Hi all,

I guess like me you’re looking forward to spending time with friends & family over the holidays?

I really love to hear about everyone’s plans, see the photos on Instagram & plan get-togethers & exchange gifts. It’s such an exciting time!

For me though there has been an unwelcome guest at Christmas (& other very social times) for awhile now. Social Anxiety Disorder.

At Christmas time in particular excitement meets trepidation!

I’ve hidden it well & didn’t really understand what was happening fully until now. But bit by bit I’ve done my research, talked to friends & sought counsel. Yep I definately suffer with anxiety.

I struggle in crowds, with loud noise, lots of people & hot places. I think the panic attacks were a good clue! I know I’m not the only one as more & more people talk about it.

For too long now I’ve let it stop me from letting my light shine. Avoiding social situations that might exasperate the situation.

Then one day I just woke up & it dawned on me, I thought this is silly! I’m a strong, confident & outgoing person! How have I let this take me over?!

Time to get back to ‘me’.

If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile you’ll know I’ve worked hard on my attitude, being positive, changing the way I see things.

Now at Christmas it can be overwhelming. I’m already slightly panicking about the children’s Christmas service in town (what if we can’t get parked, what if we’re late, what if we can’t get a seat etc etc).

Instead of avoiding said situation, you know what?! I’m going to go for it.

If you don’t suffer with anxiety you may be thinking, how silly. If you want to go to something then just go! But someone who does suffer with it will know it’s not that easy.

My hope is that the more I practice mindfulness, being all in the moment rather than letting my mind gallop on to the million things that could go wrong, it will get a bit easier in time.

I’m also hoping I’ll start to cut myself some slack, my perfectionist personality trait kicks in too (but that’s enough material for another post).

Yes going to a Christmas service with two young children is stressful! It is for everyone not just me!

Time to pull up my britches as my Grandma would say, & get on with it.

Wish me luck.

Do you suffer with anxiety, social or otherwise? You’re not alone.

Are you excited about Christmas & all the extra happiness that seems to go around?

Until the next time friends
Have a great day

A Cotswold Getaway

Hey friends,

We’ve just been away sans kids for a birthday/Christmas getaway!  We practically ran out of the door, suitcase in hand for a night away in the Cotswold Regency Town of Cheltenham.

It’s a town we know well having many friends & countless visits over the years. We’ve always stayed with friends, this time we decided to find a hotel, rather last minute as a treat.  We didn’t take into account that is was a Race Weekend though & everywhere I tried was booked! Hubby took over & boy am I glad he did!

Ravenhurst B & B is new, I absolutely believe that’s the only reason we got a room here, because once the secret is out I guarantee it’ll be booked up months in advance!!

Ravenhurst House

Can you imagine my face when we drew up to this house? Uh huh, jaw to the ground moment, the boy did good.

Ravenhurst Door Ravenhurst Stairs Ravenhurst Banksy style Ravenhurst Ercol

I don’t think I’ve ever stayed anywhere so nice, the house is beautiful.

The home decor is tasteful, modern with a Banksy feel but not too cold, a lovely mix of personal & designer pieces! I especially loved the painted Ercol chairs. A look I’ll be stealing for my Ercol chairs so watch out for that next year!

The welcome here is very warm. Alex is the lady of the house & we met Andy soon after.

As it was such a busy weekend we hadn’t factored in getting a taxi to our restaurant to celebrate our friend Lady Corrie’s 30th (yup, a real lady). We alerted Andy & Alex to the fact that all the taxis were booked up & Andy immediately offered us a lift, no problems. You all know how much I appreciate above & beyond!

The room we were given is HUGE! We stayed in Fig Tree, with a little hall in the middle & a bathroom with underfloor heating, a massive shower head & Orla Kiely complimentary bathroom bits.  The bed was extremely comfortable & again massive, I lost hubby in it. Fantastic!

The hospitality continued with a fry up English breakfast, toast, juice & an endless supply of coffee & tea.  Very much needed after an evening celebrating with a lot of red wine!

Ravenhurst Lizzie

We left feeling very happy that everywhere else had been booked. It’s a little gem!! Look at the website here or follow them on Twitter

Until the next time friends
